Peace of Mind Regional Event Hosted at St. Nicholas
Our regional Peace of Mind event is scheduled for Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 8:30AM to 5:00PM. This is a one-day training and certification program in mental health first-aid that is being offered to Orthodox clergy and lay ministers. Any members of our parish who are engaged in ministry (Church School teachers, Parish Council members, leaders of any of our other ministries) are encouraged to register and attend. Peace of Mind was developed through the Assembly of Bishops Mental Health Ministries in direct response to findings from our 2021 Mental Health Needs Assessment. We are so grateful to partner with you in delivering this training program for the enhancement of ministry within your parish as well as the surrounding geographic area. One of the priests who completed Peace of Mind training through a pilot event in New York reported: "It was definitely a worthwhile training program that should be required of all clergy along with parish leaders."
Peace of Mind is a composite training program on mental health crisis response that includes a clinically-based course (Mental Health First Aid, owned by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing) that is augmented by a theologically-based presentation developed by the Assembly of Bishops. To meet the requirements for training, participants will need to commit to (1) independently completing a brief, online course for Mental Health First Aid prior to the in-person event and (2) attending the in-person Peace of Mind event in its entirety.
