Peace Vigil for Ukraine

On Friday, March 4, communities from throughout the Grand Valley region will gather at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church for a Peace Vigil for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The event will begin at 5:30pm with a Paraklesis Service of Intercession. At 6:30pm, we will exit the Church for a candlelight vigil in the parking lot. Engagement for children will be available, and a collection will be taken for International Orthodox Christian Charities' Ukraine Crisis Response Fund (iocc.org).

On February 24, 2022, acting with disregard for international law and the value of human life, Russia began its invasion of the sovereign country of Ukraine. Russia's violent actions have been broadly condemned, both by the United Nations and by faith leaders around the world.

Approximately 70% of the population of Ukraine is Eastern Orthodox, while another 10% is Greek Catholic. We therefore share a deep spiritual bond with the people of Ukraine. We pray that God would speedily grant peace and resolution of every conflict through dialogue and mutual understanding.
